# A fund for free legal help, formed in the open.

> As of August 2026: the charitable entity is being formed. No money can move here, by design.

You have seen the three week old charity page with a payment button and a stock photo of a gavel. This page is the opposite, on purpose. Until the entity exists, nothing here asks, nothing here collects, and every sentence is checkable today.

The structural fix being funded is a free, supervised clinic model whose product is a record courts can read. The record is the product, and the record is what a pledge is for.

## What this is today

- **Entity.** The charitable entity is being formed. It is not yet a registered charity in any jurisdiction, and this page does not solicit.
- **Money.** No money can move here. There is no payment processor, no account, and no address to send anything to. That is a design decision, not an oversight.
- **Pledges.** Pledges recorded so far: zero, stated in words because it is a count, not a dashboard. That number is real, and we would rather show it than fake it.
- **Claims.** No claim about tax treatment is made here, for now or for later. When the entity exists and counsel has spoken, this page will change and will date the change.

## The gap is structural.

Legal aid is heroic, and it is outmatched. Money that buys hours inside the current structure refills a thimble against the number below. What needs funding is the structure that changes the unit economics of help. That is what this fund is being formed to build.

**For 92% of their civil legal problems, low-income Americans get no real help.**

The Legal Services Corporation's Justice Gap study (2022): low-income Americans did not receive any or enough legal help for 92% of their substantial civil legal problems.

## What the money will build

A free, supervised, measured law school clinic. Not software instead of lawyers: a structure that keeps the lawyer in and writes every step down.

- **Drafts.** The machine does the toil: intake, research, first drafts, at machine cost.
- **Questions.** A law student questions and corrects the draft, and learns judgment by doing it.
- **Signs.** A supervising lawyer reviews and signs. Named, responsible, sovereign over every act.
- **Logs.** Every step is written down. The record is the product: outcomes a court can read before anyone asks it to make anything permanent.
- **Free.** The client, who at market rates would have gotten nothing, pays nothing. The work is grant funded when the fund is real.

Where this comes from: the Minnesota case, argued with every primary source named, at [law.org.ai/mn](https://law.org.ai/mn).

## What a pledge will be

A pledge will be an entry in a ledger kept in public, not a transaction. In plain terms:

- **Recorded.** Written down, dated, and readable by anyone. A ledger, not a counter.
- **Revocable.** A statement of intent that binds no one, revocable in a sentence.
- **Metered.** When funds are real, drawdown ties to matters actually closed: filed, executed, logged. No outcome, no drawdown. Money buys outcomes, not office space.

## Read, pledge, decide again when it is real

- **Read.** The design and its Minnesota provenance are public, with primary sources named. No form is required to read anything.
- **Pledge.** Record a non binding intention to give when the entity exists: an amount if you wish, an email so we can tell you when formation is complete. It moves no money and binds no one.
- **Decide again.** When the entity is formed and registered where registration is required, we notify you and publish the governing documents. Your pledge converts only by your own act, then. Never automatically.

The charitable entity behind this work is being formed. Nothing here is a solicitation of funds. A pledge records your intention; it moves no money and binds no one.

[Record a pledge by email](mailto:pledge@justice.charity?subject=Pledge)

The address is pledge@justice.charity. There is no form here and nothing to submit; writing the email is the whole mechanism. Your email is used to tell you when formation is complete, and for nothing else. No list, no campaign, no follow up you did not ask for.

## Restraint is the trust signal.

When there is an entity, papers, and an account that a careful reader can verify, this page will show them and date the change. Until then it will keep saying exactly this.

## For machines

This page content-negotiates: browsers get HTML, every other client gets this markdown. GET /healthz is a typed liveness probe. There is no payment or pledge endpoint on this host; a pledge is recorded by email to pledge@justice.charity, and no money can move here.
